Natural Training Methods for Miniature Horses-NEW DVD!!

Featuring Pat Elder

Natural Training for Miniature Horses
Trainer Pat Elder and her assistant Katherine Velkovich will show you how to work with your fearful, unruly, or just plain disrespectful miniature horse. Using these methods, you can train your horse in a way that is easy for both you and the horse to understand.

In the Natural Training Method for Miniature Horses, Pat and Katherine take two problem horses through three 30 to 40 minute sessions each, showing you how to lay the foundation for a lifetime partnership with your horse.

Day 1: focuses on desensitizing the horse to noises and quick movements, then sensitizing the horse to become supple and accepting.

Day 2: focuses on teaching respect and obedience to verbal commands, while working the horse on a lunge line.

Day 3: the horse graduates to working "loose" in the round pen. He learns to work cooperatively, responding to hand signals and voice commands.

Showmanship at Halter DVD

Item Number: 603

Price: $22.50

This DVD gives an overview of showmanship.  The elements of the class are explained along with examples of correct setups, pivots, stops, and backs.  Proper equipment and grooming are discussed along with graphics, which explain scoring and faults.  A class of four is judged and critiqued by AQHA judges.

If you are doing AMHR showmanship, this DVD does not cover the half method (it only goes into the quarter method that AMHA and PtHA use), but it is still an excellent source of information with GREAT examples of poised, confident exhibitors and what showmanship should look like.

Hoof Care and Trimming DVD Featuring Pat Grady

"Training Your Miniature for Halter Obstacle" take the training process step by step, starting with a review of the three main types of obstacles, what they demonstrate to the judges, and how to build your own course at home.

Training techniques for the most common obstacles are shown in detail, with tips and advice to help you make the best presentation possible. Obstacles covered include jumps, rails, cavaletti, water, bridges, sidepassing, forehand pivot, haunch pivot, and ground-tying. The art of backing your horse is discussed at length.

After successfully training the obstacle horse, the amateur is schooled on drills and exercises that will build the horse's flexibility, perfect turns and backing, and accustom the horse and handler to the obstacles. Included are "Problem-Solving Workshops" that cover things such as balking, rearing, and the stressed horse; these problem/solution demonstrations will be of great benefit to the amateur trainer.

A free poster is included with each tape. This handy two-sided sheet includes samples of obstacle patterns one might encounter, instructions for building obstacles, contact addresses & phone numbers, class requirements and descriptions, and more. The poster will be of great benefit out in the training field, when the videotape must stay in the house.

Halter and Obstacle Halter DVD Featuring Joanne Ross

So You’re Expecting a Foal– DVD + Booklet

This detailed video provides the critical “need to know” information for any Mini owner preparing for a first foal.  Care of the pregnant mare, including pasture and turnout, the foaling stall, and familiarization with the mare’s anatomy, are covered completely.  The impending signs of delivery are demonstrated, with tips on when to watch for them.

A 5-week countdown to delivery culminates in a “real time” delivery on film- “up close and personal”- followed by an in-depth review of each stage.

After the foal is born, you’ll have a chance to watch the bonding process, the foal’s struggle to stand, and the mare’s delivery of the afterbirth.

“Red Alert” signs are detailed, including premature separation of the placenta, abnormal presentation, and some things to note in the newborn.

The accompanying handbook provides explicit information on subjects that are not easily shown on film.  45 minutes

DVD + Booklet!

Hoof Care and Trimming for Miniature Horses is a video that will help Mini owners understand the equine foot and care for it properly. This workshop features third-generation farrier Pat Grady, who gives detailed instruction on how to trim your own Minis’ hooves. A Miniature Horse owner himself, Pat carefully explains the steps and tools required to keep your horses balanced and comfortable. In addition, he demonstrates and discusses several special foot problems, including founder, pidgeon toes, and tiny foal feet. No clinic would be complete without a solid understanding of conformation, and the Miniature Horse foot and leg structure are discussed in depth to give the viewer a complete picture. Full-screen illustrations and animated graphics make these structural issues more clear.
